2010 NBA Finals Preview: The Celtics vs Lakers Rematch
17 championships (Boston) to 15 championships (Los Angeles). The best rivalry in NBA history. This should be fantastic. The Lakers have homecourt advantage, unlike 2008, but I don’t see homecourt being a big factor here.
Remember game 6 of the 2008 NBA Finals? Kobe quit on his team. He gave up. I hope the memories come flooding back for Mr. Bryant, come June 3rd.
Andrew Bynum is almost useless at this point. His knee isn’t cooperating. He’s a shell of himself. Lamar Odom, well, he’s Lamar Odom. You can’t count on him.
Rajon Rondo, arguably the best point guard alive, will eviscerate La’s point guards. Rondo’s the new Jason Kidd: an awesome rebounding guard who puts up triple doubles with ease, gets to the rim, makes others better, and can’t shoot.
Kevin Garnett is having some flashbacks to his dominant days, and if he plays well, this might get ugly for L.A. Kendrick Perkins has a sprained wrist, but all indications are all that he’ll be fine. The Celtics bigs know that they can manhandle Pau Gasol. He’s soft. They do not respect him.
Rasheed Wallace, if he decides to try, could be a nice X factor for Boston. He’s still extremely versatile, and could give Gasol & Bynum fits on the perimeter. Not to mention, we’ve already seen ‘Sheed decide to shut down Dwight Howard in the low post at times, so why couldn’t he do it in stretches against Pau?
I see this playing out similarly to 2008. Boston’s defense will again be superior. They’re playing on a string right now. Their defense is fantastic right now.
There’s a chance both of these coaches will be gone next year. Doc told the media that he might resign, (when he thought Boston had no shot at the title), and Phil’s body is just deteriorating.
I’ll take the Celtics in 6, and I’ll take Rajon Rondo as the Finals MVP, getting the award Tony Parker-style, ala 2007, as the new established point guard under a group of veterans.
Nothing will make me happier than seeing the Lakers lose to Boston again. If I have to see Adam Morrison running onto an NBA court, celebrating once again, I’ll probably light myself on fire.
Kobe, tell me how my a** tastes. Go drain another knee.
