Chad Ochocinco fails to remember that the Bengals have to play the Steelers and Ravens.. TWICE

on 06 19, 2009

Chad Ochocinco is back at it. Coming off a season in which he caught only 4 touchdown passes for a mediocre 540 yards, the flamboyant Ochocinco is predicting the Cincinnati Bengals to make the playoffs this season.

During Bengals minicamp, the wide-out had this to say:

“It’s going to be a great year; we’re going to the playoffs… We’re going … We’re making progress. I mean, I see it, and I can come out on a limb and say what we’re going to do” (ESPN.com).

Don’t get it twisted Chad, ‘progress’ is one thing, but playoffs? Come on now, let’s be rationale. It’s hard for a team who finished the regular season 4-11-1 to not experience progress. With QB Carson Palmer healthy and a solid draft, I’m sure the Bengals are experiencing improvement, but predicting a postseason appearance for the ‘Nati is just silly.

It’s not surprising that Ochocinco is running his mouth and making noise this off-season. He is a clown, and that is what clowns do, entertain. I mean, the guy legally changed his last name from Johnson to Ochocinco.

What makes his prediction even more ridiculous is that Cincinnati doesn’t play in some cupcake division. The AFC North is extremely tough. The Bengals have to face the defending Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers and a tough Baltimore Ravens team twice. Given their rebuilding stage I left the Browns out, but even Cleveland split games with Cincinnati last season. If we go off last year’s results, which I feel is a reasonable assumption; the Bengals will lose 5 of 6 division games.

On top of playing in a tough division, Cincinatti lost TJ Houshmandzadeh to free agency. I’ll go out on a limb and say that Whosyourmama is a better wide-out than Ochocinco. With Chad and TJ to throw to, Carson Palmer had a dangerous receiving corps. Not so much now. This wouldn’t pose such a problem if the Bengals had a solid running game, but they don’t. Who’s their starting RB anyways? Cedric Benson?

Ochocinco is ridiculous, so his predictions aren’t too surprising. Hey Chad, here’s a suggestion; zip your mouth, let your game do the talking and try to return to Pro Bowl form. I think Ochocinco might do better if he would keep his mouth shut.

To wrap it up, the Cincinnati Bengals will not be playing in the upcoming post-season. And don’t forget; make sure to catch the Bengals on HBO’s Hard Knocks this season! Woohoo! I know I’m excited!
