CONFIRMED: UNC Sucks
Chad on 02 21, 2009
UNC has widely been considered a favorite to win the National Championship for this season, and the previous two seasons. However, time and time again UNC proves that they cannot live up to their hype.
A favorite to win the ACC, they were able to start ACC play with an astonishing record of 0-2. Not bad for a team that is “supposed to” win the National Championship. UNC was able to turn around their luck and put together a solid string of victories. That was until, of course, they stepped into Maryland this afternoon (2/21/2009).
Maryland, the smallest team in the ACC, looked to be bullied inside by ‘Psycho T’ and the Terrible Tar Heels. Yet, when the game was done and over the Terrapins looked as though the bigger team. Maryland compiled 10 blocks to UNC’s only 1 block, not bad for the smallest team in the ACC. They even allowed Greivis Vasquez to pull down 11 boards himself.

Greivis Vasquez put up phenomenal numbers as he time and time again exposed UNC’s in ability to guard a true scoring threat. I doubt UNC’s ability to stop a top tier true scorer such as Stephen Curry or Jodie Meeks. Greivis recorded Maryland’s second triple double in the school’s history. He ended the afternoon with 35 points, 11 rebs, 10 ast, 2 stl, 3 blks, while going perfect from the line as he sealed up the game.
The Terrapins, on the other hand, were able to lock up last year’s Player of the Year, Tyler Hansbrough. Psycho T was being guarded by a variety of undersized postmen such as Dave Neal. They were able to keep Hansbrough in check with only 11 points.
UNC looked like a potential ACC tournament favorite rather than a National Championship contender. UNC has been vastly overrated ever since their last championship in 2005. This loss today will prove once again an overrated UNC team will fail in the tournament this March.
