Cubs haven't won a World Series in 101 years, looks like this year won't be any different

Ahhh the Chicago Cubs. Despite seemingly being fed with a silver spoon, the Cubbies are struggling yet again. With injuries to extremely pivotal players such as Derek Lee, Carlos Zambrano, and Aramis Ramirez, the Cubs are seemingly down that same old twisted road fate brings them down year after year. The Cubs are 0-15 this year when scoring less than four runs. The inability of this team to win low scoring games corresponds with their pitching struggles.
The Cubs, however, sport a 4.37 ERA which is good for being just about average in the majors. They have a top 5 opponent’s batting average at .242. Unfortunately, they are among lead leaders in home runs given up with 48 given up through 39 games. Also, the bullpen has suffered converting only 60% of their save opportunities. More important than any stats, the Cubs have been incapable of keeping runs off the board when they need to most.
With Zambrano on the 15 day DL, and the Cubs falling like a meteor outta the NL Central race(losing 4 straight, 4 games outta first), the Cubs could be looking at picking up where their neighbors across town left off. The acquisition of a pitcher of Jake Peavy’s stature would undoubtedly restore confidence across the board for this Chicago Cubs team. Zambrano will also benefit from this move with ability to take more time to heal his hamstring. Keeping Zambrano healthy is pertinent for the Cubs to succeed in the playoffs. Peavy’s entrance to the Cubs clubhouse would restore confidence on the slumping offensive players as well. Skipper Lou Piniella has had to consider moving Soriano back to the infield with Fontenot putting up a dismal .195 average. The decrease of pressure on the on the offense due to Peavy’s presence could propel the Cubs to push through the summer months and put themselves in a great position for a playoff run.
Can the Cubs current bankrupt owners get out of the way fast enough to make this move happen before the deadline? We will wait to see. Peavy wants to play for a national league team, and it will take a contender in order for him to leave SoCal.
