Floyd ducking top Welterweights once again

As an avid and passionate boxing fan, something has been on my mind
lately, that is, the best division in boxing right now; the
Welterweight Division. When you talk about the best at 147, you still
need to bring Floyd Mayweather Jr. up for discussion, but now it looks
like the former champion will be making a comeback. Unfortunately, it
is against another undersized opponent in Mayweather’s quest for more
dead presidents.
Look, to be perfectly honest, Floyd Mayweather Jr. is a very good
fighter, possibly the best fighter of this generation. But this next
fight on July 18th against Juan Manuel Marquez is a joke, and for the
most part, Floyd’s detractors are correct…… It’s no use in calling
yourself the best if you are taking on Marquez. I don’t care how many
times Shane Mosley or Mayweather ducked each other or how many times
Mayweather turned down a fight with Cotto or ducked Paul
Williams, you need to step up and fight the best rather than these
hand selected opponents. Mayweather should whip or try to whip Shane
Mosley on principle to show the people this is why Shane didn’t want
to fight me. I understand the money making aspect of boxing, but it
is time for Floyd Money Mayweather to get busy against the new true
cream of the crop in the Welterweight Division. Paul Williams is the
only guy Mayweather should be saying ‘he ain’t worth my time.’ My
feeling is that if they would fight, Paul Williams’ work rate would be
too much for Mayweather to handle. Mayweather beating Pacquiao or
Hatton again proves nothing, he will end up like Roy Jones Jr; trying
to fight for respect once he is past his prime, and as a fan, I don’t
want to see that! Juan Manuel Marquez is 36 yrs old and was hurt
several times by powder punching Juan Diaz; Marquez has been in too
many wars to handle Mayweather.
Mayweather was at 147 the last few years; not because he couldn’t make
140 or even 135, but because that’s where all the money was and 140
was a wasteland. Now, 140 is more attractive and he can still make
it, so he’s gunning for Pacquiao and another fat paycheck. Marquez is
just the person that gets to be the comeback victim en route to the
Mayweather/Pacquaio mega fight, which in my opinion, will not be as
entertaining as Mayweather fighting Paul Williams, Shane Mosley, or
the winner of the upcoming Cotto/ Clottey fight. If Mayweather fought
any of these guys and lost, I would respect him more than I do now.
If Mayweather does make a comeback, as it looks like he will, he needs
to step up the competition. It is fair that he is held to a different
standard because he has proven himself to be better than the rest so
far in his career, but he has to realize it will only last so long
until we will sit back and decide to not keep taking these garbage
fights.
