Game 7 Choke Jobs

on 06 19, 2010

Most people I know are in awe of Kobe Bryant right now.  He just won his 5th ring, and got his 2nd Finals MVP.

It’s making me sick.

Well, in case you didn’t notice, Kobe went 6-24 in game 7.  He took some of the worst shots I’ve ever seen attempted.  The guy simply makes bad decisions too often for my liking.

I would argue that Kobe actually hurt his reputation/legacy last night, at least for the people who know NBA history.  He was pretty terrible.  Rings aren’t everything, my friends.

You could just see Kobe thinking, “Crap, I better play better, or I’ll never be compared to Jordan.”  He’s obsessed with it.  Yeah, and jumping on the scorer’s table?  Real original, Mamba.

Bill Simmons joked on twitter:   “Hey @jimmykimmel – make sure you go 6 for 24 in monologue jokes tonight so your first guest (Kobe) feels right at home.”   Thank you, Bill.  I can always count on you to hate Kobe as much as I do.

Yeah, the Celtics choked too.  They absolutely had the game in the palm of their hands.  Through three quarters, it was one of the best defensive efforts I’ve even seen.  They held the Lakers to 53 points!   But…Boston could just not buy a bucket in the last 14 minutes, or so.  Derek Fisher & Ron Artest pulled shots out of their asses in crunch time, and that was it.  Not to mention the huge free throw disparity in the 4th quarter…

Kobe, you’re still a punk.  You will NEVER be Michael Jordan.   His Airness won 6 titles without a big man.  You’ve had 2 of the best big men in the last 20 years.  The Grizzlies gift wrapped Gasol for you, and he bailed you out in game 7, with 19 points and 18 rebounds.  Jordan never needed anyone to bail him out.

Oh, and don’t forget:  James & Durant are coming for ya, Kobe.
