I'm tired of watching the NFL Draft coverage
Dave on 04 24, 2009
In a time where there is so much going on in the world of sports, something inconveniently stands out and receives so much undeserved attention. Now keep in mind we have the NBA playoffs, the NHL playoffs, and the beginning of the MLB season all going on simultaneously. Needless to say, there is no shortage of sporting news and highlights that should be consuming our sports networks. However, as I watched ESPN today I found there to be more coverage on the NFL draft than anything else. Now before I talk about how stupid this is take into mind that I know the NFL draft has a big impact on the future of many NFL teams.
That being said, there is no way the draft should receive as much coverage as it gets. Think about it, when the Superbowl comes to an end, the NFL coverage just becomes consumed with the draft. I don’t care how in depth something can potentially be; there is no way this event requires almost four months of analysis. Every time I turn on the TV it seems as though Todd McShay or Mel Kiper Jr. have their new mock drafts posted. Great, who gives a shit, outside of the top 5 picks they are extremely inaccurate. You would think if you put four months of time into something you would get better results, not the case. I don’t care if the top quarterback prospect had a good workout for a team that is interested in taking him. I don’t care if an offensive tackle had a bad workout, or could only do so many reps on the bench. That doesn’t mean anything; unfortunately ESPN feels it could make all the difference in the world to this future NFL player.

And another thing, why is NFL Live even on right now? When the NBA, and MLB seasons come to an end there is no longer NBA Fastbreak or Baseball Tonight airing regularly. Why, because there is nothing worthy of talking about in that respective sport because the year has come to an end.
The NFL has the shortest season with the fewest amount of games, yet it is the sport that receives the most attention. That makes no sense.
I was flipping through the channels the other day and made the regrettable mistake of watching the end of NFL Live. The last thing I needed was another reason to hate the undeserving attention the sport receives, but with their topic of conversation they gave me exactly that. The discussion (and I am not making this up) was, “who is the greatest backup quarterback in NY Giants history.” Not starting quarterback, but backup quarterback, the first thing that came to mind was the infamous Happy Gilmore quote, “Gold jacket, Green jacket, WHO GIVES A SHIT!” Seriously though, does anyone really care about something so meaningless? For your sake, I sure hope your answer is NO!
