Secondly, you’re entirely correct regarding Smoltz. His opponents are hitting at a MUCH higher clip when batting from the left side this year. So high that it’s actually alarming if he were to face a lefty heavy lineup. While against righties he’s been very successful.

The problem is that I can’t imagine him accepting a bullpen role if it was at all permanent. He wouldn’t pitch out of the ‘pen with the Red Sox this year, so it’s hard to believe that he’ll be happy out of the bullpen with St. Louis. Most likely he’ll be a 5th starter.

And I agree….F*ck Favre.

As long as they limit Smoltz to late-inning relief against right-handers only, it’s a great signing for the Cardinals.

Dolemite- I’m not so sure Rosenfels wouldn’t be a better option to be honest…and Smoltz is probably a fraction better than any other 5th starter that the Cards could throw out there if we’re going to go that route…

Eaither way, I think we’d all be better off if they both simply gave it up.

The thing about Favre is that he CAN contribute right now today, he’s better than their two other QB’s. It’s pretty simple in his case.
