Michael Redd: Milwaukee’s Big Investment…Oops
David on 07 30, 2010
Before I start going off on a rant about how much I truly despise Michael Redd, lets first establish who created this monster. Larry Harris, step to the front of the room. You my friend, to put this as kindly as possible, were by far the worst GM the Milwaukee Bucks has ever been stuck with. I want to first dive into some of the signings you made during your tenure as Bucks GM. Damon Jones, Dan Langhi, Daniel Santiago, and Erick Strickland during the 03-04 season. Are you out of your mind? I can not think of a softer group of people that wouldn’t even get picked for a pick up game at your local YMCA. Daniel Santiago…are you kidding me….just pathetic. Then the following season he tries his harderst to put together the worst team in history with the likes of Reece Gaines, Marcus FIzer, Calvin Booth, Anthony Goldwire, Zendon Hamilton, and Kendall Gill.
Never, in my life, have I seen a bigger waste of money. But hey, Santiago was back for this season, so all is good. I’m going to stop there and end Harris with his signing of Michael Redd to a Max Contract. Yes, Michael Redd, No defense, super chucker Michael Redd got a max deal. I could probably name 50 players in the league the year he got his deal that I think are better than him. Hell, even at the time, I thought Mo Williams was better, and I think that guy is a complete bucket of ass. But, lets not put all the blame on Harris, He signed a slightly taller version of Screech form Saved By The Bell to a nice 6 million a year deal, which Is funny considering that guy, if a free agent today, wouldn’t even get a look. Way to go pal. Harris, go sit down, next up, Herb Kohl.
Where do we start. Well, you know nothing about basketball, that’s clearly what is going on here. Let’s invest 100+ million in a good citizen, a church man, a real nice guy. Look, if that is what you want to do, start a golf team, this is basketball. This is a sport where the nice guys win only on occasion. Nice guys often don’t have the fire to win, to lead, to strive to be better. If Michael Redd had Kevin Garnett’s passion and played defense even every other possession, I’d say he were on Ray Allen’s level. But no, he will never be. That’s what Kohl was looking for, Allen’s replacement. Well ding-ding-ding, FAIL.
Michael Redd has been, and always was just a chucker. Nice 6th man that could come in with some instant office. He should’ve taken the mold that JR Smith has taken today with Denver. Instant offense chucker off the bench. If you think you can become a superstar, play defense. You don’t see superstars now days not playing defense. Lebron, plays defense like a man on a mission. Wade, leads league in blocks by a guard. Dwight Howard, well that’s not really fair since he is superman and has super powers, but you get the point im trying to make here. Michael Redd, Larry Harris’s ridiculous spending ideas, and Herb Kohls ignorance for basketball talent sunk the Bucks throughout the 2000’s. I thank god every day that Bogut and Jennings will not have to take after Redd, and Jennings is a legit superstar in the making, he plays hard on both sides of the ball, as does his big buddy Bogut.
In closing, Michael Redd, I hope you enjoy watching Ohio State get raped in the big ten this year while sitting on the couch making 18 million. You abandoned the Bucks last year, during their inspirational playoff run, you were nowhere to be found. That is not what a leader does, that’s not what a star does, that’s not what a Max player is paid to do. You my friend, are a scrub and will continue to be a scrub in eyes of all bucks fans.
