Redskins Economic Stimulus

Did the Washington Redskins really just sign defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth to a 7 year/$100 million dollar contract? Wow. The Redskins’ front office unquestionably has some brass-balls. This is like going ‘all-in’ on a draw in poker; exceedingly ballsy, and a toss up.

Haynesworth hasn’t played a full season since his rookie year due to injuries, and is frequently on the sideline sucking down oxygen from the oxygen tank. He is notorious for having anger issues  ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5nlEA8BUTQ ) and a lack of motivation. 100 million is a ridiculous sum of money to risk on a player whose health, temper and motivation are in question. The Redskins also made DeAngelo Hall one of the highest paid CBs in the league by giving him a 6 yr./$54 million dollar contract. Hall is not worth that kind of money. The Redskins are awfully charitable.

Owner Dan Snyder has a history of throwing money around. He spent the most anyone has ever paid for an NFL team when he bought the Redskins in ’99 for $800 million. He has a history of bringing in big-name players to Washington and overpaying for them. He proved today that even with the rough economy, he is still willing to dish out the big bucks.

Snyder I know you probably don’t own too many coins, but find one and flip it. What Haynesworth are you going to get? The injured, hot-tempered and unmotivated 320 pounder? Or the healthy, dominant big man with a level head on his shoulders? Either way, I don’t see him living up to his 100 million dollar contract.
