I can agree with that. That play is hardly the reason I feel the way I do about Van Gundy though. I’ve seen his team blow big leads several times this season, and I just think he is far too emotional as a coach. Even his players are questioning his motives, that’s not a good sign.

While Van Gundy did blame himself, that by no means makes him a bad coach. if anything I think that makes him a better coach for putting the blame on himself. The defensive play at the end of game 2 was great but in that situation where your players did everything perfectly and an amazing shot happens to go in Van Gundy isn’t going to blame the loss on his players, nor should he have blamed it on himself. He took away the better option of the two plays the Cavs could have run.

I know what the plan was, but come on, we all know who’s getting the ball. It was a phenomenal shot, but even Van Gundy admitted it was his fault.

“That one obviously hurts quite a bit,” he said. “I’d like to have that last one back from a coaching standpoint,” he said. “I should have defended it differently. It’s crushing enough to lose as a coach, but when you feel like you’re the guy who could’ve made the difference, it hurts a lot more.”

As for Game 1 and Game 2 go…I’d say Cleveland lost it (Game 1) instead of Orlando winning it. Huge leads at half, coming out in the 2nd half on tranquilizers. Poor coaching from Mike Brown.

I’m just not sure about Van Gundy.

Are you serious? The play was originally planed for lebron to get an ally oop to tie the game, the Magic guarded that play perfectly and then lebron poped out and shot a prayer for the win. On top of all that Hedo played amazing defense to close out on the three. Forcing LeBron into a fade away from behind the 3 point line is much better than the play the Cavs were trying to run.

I agree that Van Gundy doesn’t always make the right decisions on the use of his players, but he has made the Magic into a strong defensive team, and if you remember the Magic came back from being down a lot in game 2. LeBron just made a lucky shot. Amazing, but lucky.

You can do that with favorable matchups. Van Gundy’s bonehead coaching let LBJ get open for that game winning 3….Not the first time his poor coaching has cost his team the game.

Welcome to 2 weeks ago. Since then the Magic have beat the favorites to win the East twice. You can’t do that with bad coaching.
