The Final Buzzer
By: David Wege
Hello. Been a little while since the last post, so I had an itching to get back on the keyboard for the next installment. Lot of crazy things happening in sports since last we spoke…Cueto from the Reds kickboxing Chris Carpenter on the Cardinals during an in-game fight, Fat Albert finally passing his physical test to practice, and lots of scrubs from my fantasy team screwing me over in various categories. Anyways, let’s get started, shall we?
NFL:
I was watching some preseason highlights the other day, and couldn’t help but feel sorry for Stafon Johnson from the Titans. He goes from nearly killing himself at USC in a freak weightlifting accident, to making a triumphant comeback, getting on with an NFL team, and now dislocates his ankle. I have never seen such a warrior in any sport. I mean, this guy crushes his neck, comes back, and still gets a shot with a professional team. Most guys would’ve packed it in and pursued a different career path, but his heart and determination are something to commend, so my hat goes off to you sir. Best of luck on yet another comeback that you’re going to have to make.

Also around the NFL, I don’t know if you guys saw this already, but Rex Ryan is now my new favorite coach.
This guy is an absolute stud of a coach! “We know we’re better than you, we don’t give a f*** if you know it or not, we don’t give a s*** if you give us your best game, we’re gonna give you our best game, and we’re gonna beat the f*** outta ya, how’s that sound?”…..sounds like a bad ass coach if you ask me. I suggest Braylon Edwards doesn’t drop passes this year. Ryan would take him out behind the equipment shed!
MLB:
So the Reds have regained the lead in the central division by sweeping the Marlins this week. Sorry Cardinal fans, you’re not going to win the central this year. And yes that was a biased opinion, but I can not stand whiney babies, so therefore the Cardinals can go cry in St. Louis by themselves.
A lot of near no hitters lately also. Brandon Morrow, today we had Kevin Slowey. Lot of pitchers owning hitters this year, and I think the Rays, one of the better teams in the league, have been no-hit twice?!…
Strasburg mania is cooling, I think. Dan Uggla is definitely Strasburg’s biggest fan so far, as he has pretty much made him his personal batting practice pitcher, going 2-3, with a towering homerun in the first inning..NICE!..even better that he is my starting 2nd baseman in fantasy.
Moving forward, my team, the Brewers…I give up with you. One series you’ll appear to have it figured out, the next, you look like you’re playing Ned Yost ball again. It’s just so confusing to me. But Weeks is starting to heat back up, as well as McGhee, so we have something to look forward to for the rest of the season, because mentioning “Brewers” and “Playoffs” in the same sentence would instantly strip you of any sports knowledge credibility!

NBA:
Shaq is now the “Big Shamrock”, the “Big Green Monster”, the “Big NBA Whore”. I swear, I think teams are bringing him in to bolster their marketing department, not their basketball team. I’ll admit he still is a serviceable center, better than most back-ups in the league, but still. Does he really need all of this attention? He never got a title alone. First time around he had Kobe, second time he had Wade, arguably the best shooting guards in the league right now. Shaq was a monster, now he just takes up space. But hey, you need someone to make you laugh, just ask Shaq to come in, he’ll be the life of training camp…
World championship play is starting. I really like team USA’s youth movement. Durant, Rose, Gay, Granger…all super athletic, highly skilled. But what sticks out to me the most is that they are super determined. I feel like these guys want to compete and win more than the “redeem” team did. They just walked over competition. I feel like this team has a chance to walk over, stomp, embarrass, just destroy opponents. And the best part is, not one player on the team is selfish! Even coach K said that Durant is too unselfish. That’s a huge name telling you that the best player is too unselfish. With Wade, Bron, Bosh, Melo, they all cared about their touches, shots, etc. This team doesn’t, they just want to win and don’t care who scores. I say Durant for tourney MVP, and the USA is going to win hands down.

Hope you enjoyed.
