The Final Buzzer: August 4, 2010

on 08 4, 2010

Ahh, how refreshing it is to know that the NFL season is approaching quickly. You have your rookies holding out for absolutely no reason, you soon-to-be nursing home residents retiring from football, only to see them wheeled into the huddle come opening day, predictions about who is winning this division and that division, fantasy football, yes yes yes, Fall is coming ladies and gentlemen. Now this being my first blog, I want to just get familiar with the reading audience. I, myself, am a sports enthusiast. I absolutely live and die sports, if I’m not playing a sports or watching a sport, I’m at the computer glued to various sports websites looking to see what’s going on, who is getting traded, who’s slumping at the plate, all the little intricate things that go along with sports. Now that being said, as a huge sports fan, there comes opinions. I know some of you may not agree with all that I am saying, but I’m going to do my best to put forth some sort of evidence to back any claim or remark I have about an athlete, team, organization, etc. So, let the party begin shall we.

NFL:
With training camp getting underway this week, I cant help but laugh at all these rookies holding out. I mean, give me a break! That Suh guy from the lions, held out until signing a deal today that guaranteed him 40 million. Let us all be real for one second, 40 million and he hasn’t even played one snap?! That’s a part of the NFL that I think needs to be addressed. There have been so many first round players that turn out to be complete busts, yet make more money than any of us will earn in our lifetime. Granted, they have god given abilities that not all of us have, but I think that is sending the wrong message to young players, that you should be given the money before earning it. This is one reason why I believe the NBA and MLB have better structured contracts for rookies, as they set very low dollar amounts and have the players work their way up to bigger contracts. I think that is how it should be. But hey, My name isn’t on the desk of the NFL’s commissioner desk now is it.

Anyways, everybody’s favorite senior citizen Brett Favre retired again, and for good this time..wink..wink..sounds like a broken record to me. So, based on the season’s forecast he should be running out of the tunnel with a purple jersey on in a couple weeks for the Vikings. This guy is just a joke. Yes, he has an incredible arm, masterful IQ of football, yet he is a bigger Diva than any athlete I’ve ever heard of…well, Latrell Sprewell gets honorable mention..BUT, why tarnish your career even more? We all know you’re one of the all-time greats, you have all the records, but what, you want to come back to screw your team out of a trip to the super bowl like you did in your last year for the Packers and last year for the Vikings..Just hang the cleats up big guy, ride your tractor into the sunset so we can all watch SportsCenter to see scores of games instead of sob stories about you. Thanks!

NBA:
Primetime schedules came out today for the NBA. What a better way to start off the NBA season than for the first game to be Celtics vs. Heat. The veteran big three against the new big three, or the nWo as I’ve grown to like calling them. Shaq, Pierce, Allen, Garnett, James, wade, bosh..first game of the season!?!?! Sounds like 2004 Allstars vs. 2009 Allstars to me. All that, and we get to see Kobe vs the Heat on Christmas! Thank you Santa, thank you Santa. Boy oh boy, what a Christmas present that is going to be. I’m not sure if there will be enough ego on the court to play a basketball game. We might as well just fast forward the season and get right to the Lakers vs Heat final. And judging by how fairly the ref’s in the NBA call games, I think it’s a pretty safe bet that the match-up of those two will be there in the end.

In other NBA news, LeBron wrote a thank you to the town of Akron. How sweet! Aww, what about Cleveland. Considering you shit on them when you “took your talents to South Beach”, and now you put more doo-doo on them by not even thanking them for making you the name you are today? Way to go LeBum, you’re one hell of a public image consultant. You realize when you go visit Cleveland for the first time in December, you’re going get boo’d louder than Bartman at a Cubs game. Just terrible to do to a town that’s been behind you for so long. How do you take it out on them? I think you take it out on the ownership of the Cavs for not giving u the pieces you needed to win. What’d Cleveland do to you other than kiss your feet, deface buildings with you image, eh,….that’s not even that much right?…what a ding-dong that guy I tell ya. Speaking of LeBron, Delonte west was released by the Timberwolves today. Bet 5 the first thing he did was call LeBron’s mom and start crying. Poor guy, and to think he’s probably one of the big reasons LeBron left. Not a good year for Delonte….and a few signings happened here and there today. Eddie House to the Heat, Jason Williams back to Orlando..Zzzzz boring.

MLB:
I swear, the second I start to like a player in baseball, they get hurt, traded, jog to baseballs instead of run to them, swing for the fence yet only hit a dribbler to the pitcher, I’m just not having good luck with baseball this year. One of my favorite rookies this year, Carlos Santana, catcher for the Indians, got hurt the other day in a collision at home plate with Ryan Kalish of the Red Sox. He sprained his knee. That’s a terrible thing to sprain if you’re a catcher considering you’re kneeling the entire time your playing. Guess I have to get a new guy off waivers to play for my fantasy team. Ugh. The brewers had a good two days in a row now. Oh ya, side note..I’m a huge brewer fan. They sunk the cubs 18-1..got to love that, cant think of anything better than maybe the Yankees losing.

Anyways, where the heck did these Texas Rangers come from? I’m about to start calling them the Power Rangers the way they are destroying pitching lately. I swear, I’ve never seen a bankrupt team play better than this, and spend like this. Just crazy! Speaking of power, Before the season, I didn’t even think the blue jays had anybody that could hit, and now they are hitting multiple home-runs every night, and Vernon Wells? Jose Batista? Adam Ling? Who?????? Like I said, these no-names, or names not really associated with hitting home runs are just going off this year. Is Jeff Suppan pitching for every team for Christ sake, there is no way that many home runs are getting hit each night, just makes no sense at all to me

Well, that’s gonna be it for the first entry into the blog. I plan on posting a few times a week, Hope all was enjoyable to read, and hope the critics are too harsh, or I may have to take a Bob Knight form of thinking towards them:   “When my time on Earth is gone, and my activities here are past, I want them to bury me upside down and my critics can kiss my ass.”

Keep it Real and God Bless,
D-Wegz
