The Phoenix Suns secure 2 more years of ticket sales, along with 2 more years not contending

I feel like I’m pointing out the obvious here, but what the hell. Typically, it’s not simple to argue against a 2 time MVP, but in this case it is. Steve Nash is overrated, and let’s be real: he only deserved one of those MVP awards.

Nash recently signed a 2 year extension worth roughly $22 million that will keep him in a Phoenix Suns jersey to the age of 38. I wouldn’t necessarily say he isn’t worth the money, but I guess that depends on Phoenix’s intentions. If they plan on contending, Nash isn’t the right guy and he probably isn’t worth the cash. If the Suns organization is looking to fill some seats and entertain with their run-and-gun style of play, he is worth every penny.

The decision to extend the PG’s contract had to have been based on the fact that he is a crowd pleaser. Steve Nash sells tickets. People like watching him play, and rightfully so. He drops some nice dimes and is great at finding/getting his players open. These are great qualities, but he remains far from a great player.

How he has 2 MVP awards is beyond me. Nash’s stats would be nowhere near what they have been with the Suns if he was elsewhere (besides maybe Golden State). Did he really deserve MVP in the 05-06 season? No way! Just because he led the league in assists (10.5) to go along with good point, FG and FT percentages doesn’t mean he deserved the MVP. You have to take into account the kind of system he is in, and the players he won the MVP award over. Phoenix is known for their up-tempo style of basketball. Nash’s numbers wouldn’t be close to what they have been if he was in a place like San Antonio for example. Additionally, he is not the best defender.

Nash has yet to win a championship and probably never will. If he does, it certainly won’t be in Phoenix. He is a good point guard, but he is far from great. Steve Nash is 35 years old at the moment, and I highly doubt he will make the leap from good to great in his remaining years.

I knew you were talking about Rodman. Yes, he was great, arguably one of the best rebounders/defenders to ever play the game.

Please give some support to the Nash winning a ring statement.
  • Gosh, I thought you could figure out who I was talking about--Dennis Rodman. Remember, he played with Michael. I used to watch the bulls way back then when you were still in diapers. All I said was that Rose is fun to watch and he is very good, in my opinion.

That's all fine and dandy Jeanette, I watch games and watch him play as well. I must ask again, how in the hell do you figure Nash will win a ring in Phoenix? Even if he was the best player in the world (which he is far from), his surrounding talent is NOWHERE NEAR being a title team. Oh yeah, they've got a bozo in the front office.

BTW, are you making reference to Derrick Rose being smart?
  • That's what makes life interesting, right, everybody to their own opinion. Well, I got that idea because I actually watch the games and watch him play, so that's a no brainer when you really watch the things he does. And, I loved Michael, but I actually enjoyed watching Dennis play more--he gave it everything he had and then some, like Nash does. Dennis was basketball smart, too, like Nash. Now, I'm also watching the Bulls again, and you know why--his name is Rose.

"he’s gonna get a ring with Phoenix–mark my word."

Only if they're selling Cracker Jacks at the games.

Nash is sick, MVP worthy probably not. But sick none the less, World Champion ring? Probably not.

LOL @ "he's gonna get a ring with Phoenix"

Apparently you don't know basketball too well....how on earth do you come to that conclusion?!
  • My, my, you must be out of your ever lovin mind or else you just think you know something about basketball. When I first saw Steve Nash play he was with the Mavericks and I wasn't even watching NBA basketball much at the time. Siince the first time I saw him play, I've hardly missed a game--that's how good I think he is. And----I know basketball. I went from a Maverick's fan to a Suns fan because of him and thank God he is coming back--and guess what, he's gonna get a ring with Phoenix--mark my word.
